Marylebone Grade II Listed Townhouse – London

Design & Planning: 6 months

Construction & Implementation: 6 months

The outstanding and most enjoyable task for this project was working to realise our client’s request to relocate the kitchen - so that the dining room had a garden view whilst retaining the flow of both areas
— Lewis James, Senior Project Architect

The Brief

Our main task was to rearrange parts of the layout of this beautiful Marylebone Grade II listed home. Our client wanted a re-designed and repositioned kitchen, which would enable the creation of a dining room with a garden view. This new configuration would also allow a very practical utility room to be added to the lower ground floor area.

What we Did

We had initial discussions with the client to discuss their overall aspirations and style goals. Then we sketched out some proposals and created some mood boards to get the feel of their general design direction. We also had to gain Listed Building Consent for this project. The main consideration was to respect and enhance the fabric and architectural importance of this listed property. Our client wished for a kitchen that comprised mostly free-standing pieces following traditional design styles and proportions. The space available for the utility room was limited, but with collaboration and very careful planning, our clients wishes for this practical yet very important room were fulfilled.
