“Our discerning clients paid great attention to detail and had the determination to make all the space in their home work to the absolute maximum for themselves and their children’ ”
The Brief
Our clients wanted this Arts & Crafts style home to be extensively refurbished to make it more suitable for a family with young children. As it is in a Conservation Area, it was not possible to extend at roof level, so we were asked to come up with workable options to extend at ground floor level. Our clients realised this would mean a total reconfiguration of each floor to streamline how their home could be used comfortably to suit their lifestyle.
What we Did
We knew we had to work within the restrictions of the Conservation Area, so we were concentrating on maximising the ground floor area. Happily, the garden was large enough to accommodate a rear extension, as well as a separate garden room positioned opposite, which could be viewed from the kitchen. The new extension was designed to house a large family dining room, a relaxation area and a spacious, beautifully equipped kitchen. The intention was to make the new space the hub of the home, with easy access to the garden and terrace area. This, combined with the re-organisation of the entire floor area throughout, provided a layout that was logical and efficient, as well as maximising all the available space. Our clients were really focused on the bespoke joinery, so fitted cabinetry was meticulously designed and planned for the whole house, providing them with ample storage for years to come.
